MIDLANDS SHARED SERVICES FORUM Working Smarter, Working Together

Welcome to the Midlands Shared Services Forum

The Midlands Shared Services forum is open to all those who have an interest, stake or role in the Midlands Shared Services community. The forum aims to foster co-operation, share synergies and promote the Midlands region and its shared service expertise by bringing people and businesses together. You’ll find like-minded colleagues you haven’t met yet, invitations to networking events, online resources and surveys, case study material for topics that are right on message in the Shared Services world and an opportunity for you to help shape future discussions, debate and content.

Membership is free, as is attendance at the events organised across both East and West Midlands. These events draw on experiences of members and selected experts to create engaging exchanges or sharing of challenges and how they are being tackled by both businesses and leaders across the industry with extensive local shared service experience.

Joining the MSSF will provide you with access to latest topics, case studies, debate and an insight into how different businesses across different sectors are embracing Shared Service Centres. These may be technology challenges, people debates, process improvement suggestions or a steer to what Best In Class actually looks like from many different perspectives.

The community shares information willingly, nothing is shared that is confidential or sensitive without prior agreement, but what is shared allows for honest engagement and those involved are happy to share time and experiences on a 1-2-1 basis, so it’s a great networking and information sharing community all focused on the same goals.

Joining our community means you'll receive invites to events, but can also explore previous events and the material shared to help shape your decision making.

We rely completely on the energy and participation of our members. Everything that we do is driven by the members’ needs, questions, requests or experiences and every single one of our members, regardless of their role status or responsibilities, has an active voice.

Testimonials

After taking up a recent new role heading up a European Shared Services based in the West Midlands, but with its headoffice in Stockholm, Sweden, I just wanted to thank all forum members for really putting the Midlands on the ‘map’ for creating centres of excellence for internationally recognised SSC’s. The forum and the information members share has proven extremely valuable in helping me create a clear, long term SSC vision for the company I have recently joined. Thanks again to all forum members, I would not have got to this position without the forums help. Looking forward to the next event.

Being a member of the MSSF has extended my professional network into all sorts of industries. I always look forward to the meetings to see how I can extend my network further and what ‘Nuggets of Knowledge’ I can pick up. The diversity of attendees and locations make it a treat not to be missed.

PTP Manager, Tarmac

I’m keen for as many professionals in The Midlands area to know of the qualities of this group. Having worked in just two shared service locations, I have found it invaluable over the past three years to share experiences, ideas and working practices around a range of topics and processes. Discussions in a relaxed atmosphere around management, transactional workings and recruitment have enabled me to get more from my working life and the insights into different ways of doing things, and understandings of other companies / industries have helped me to strive for future development. Most of all I have enjoyed the meeting and networking with a wide ranging group of people in a range of locations with both serious and light-hearted activities completed.

Recently, I have attended a number of events arranged by the Midlands Shared Service Forumand I find these events an effective way to broaden my knowledge around shared supportservices with a view on how to provide the best service to your customers. The forumprovides a great way to improve your own understanding of your shared service business through discussion with your peers , sharing stories, best practices, reflections and lessons learnt. I love the fact that no matter what industry you are in we all face the same issues and challenges and I always leave the room feeling reassured that I am doing the right thing in my organisation and I have learnt something to take back o the teams. If you want to meet likeminded individuals who have been on the same shared services journey as you, going on that journey or about to embark on something new, then this a great way to test your ideas and thinking. So if you have an interest in Shared services then come along as I would wholeheartedly recommend.

As founders of the Accounts Payable Association (APA) have been attending MSSF events for the last 2 years, there’s always excellent content and speakers in a room full of like-minded professionals. The APA recently agreed to support the P2P Quality Circle sessions that the MSSF had organised which allowed thought provoking conversations and information sharing. Definitely a group to be part of if you are involved in a Midlands SSC.

—Jamie Radford

I have attended the Midlands SSC Forum, on a number of occasions, and find it a friendly and welcoming environment. It is a space for Professional Finance people to share ideas and good practice which I can use in our Organisation, too. As well as this great networking space, coupled with Linked-In and the website, it is a fantastic tool for collaboration. We have visited some great locations and the passion for Shared Services’ excellence is plainly there to see.
